Teaching Computer Science Through Literature: A Librarian's Guide

Are you a busy media specialist in need of an integrated computer science lesson for Monday? As experts in cross-curricular integration, school library media specialists (SLMSs) play a crucial role in supporting classroom instruction. By incorporating computer science standards into their curriculum, SLMSs can enhance student learning and prepare them for a technology-driven future. This integration not only fosters essential problem-solving skills but also demonstrates that coding and computer science extend far beyond gaming; they are vital components of a comprehensive education.
Recognizing the demands on media centers, a dedicated group of Maryland media specialists has developed a lesson database designed specifically to aid SLMSs in weaving computer science concepts into their programs. These peer-reviewed lessons offer practical, ready-to-use applications that can be easily adapted for various grade levels.
In this engaging session, attendees will have the opportunity to explore this invaluable resource and learn how to plan or adapt integrated computer science lessons that can be implemented immediately in their libraries. Join us to enhance your programming and provide students with robust, engaging learning experiences that prepare them for the future!
